A Professional Dive Watch Reinvented by Panerai

The Panerai Submersible is the brand's only collection purpose-built as a true ISO-certified dive watch. Originally part of the Luminor family, the Submersible became its own line in 2019. Its defining characteristics include a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown with protective bridge, bold legibility, and deep water resistance. Unlike the Radiomir or Luminor models, which emphasize historical reissues and military aesthetics, the Submersible embraces modern technical materials and functional innovation.

Materials and Innovations

Submersible models often feature high-tech case materials designed for performance and longevity:

  • Bronzo: An alloy of copper and tin that develops a unique patina over time, giving each watch a one-of-a-kind appearance.
  • Carbotech™: A proprietary carbon-fiber-based material that is lighter and stronger than titanium, with a layered matte finish.
  • BMG-Tech™: A bulk metallic glass that resists corrosion, scratches, and magnetic fields while offering visual refinement.

Submersible vs. Luminor and Luminor 1950

Compared to the Luminor and Luminor 1950 families, the Submersible features a rotating timing bezel and conforms to modern dive watch specifications. While Luminor models emphasize vintage charm and minimalism, the Submersible offers a bolder, sportier design tailored for underwater exploration.

All pre-owned Submersible watches from The 1916 Company are authenticated, inspected, and protected by our two-year global warranty. These collector-grade timepieces offer functional excellence and horological prestige.

Yes. While they are engineered for diving, many references like the PAM 01074 and PAM 01055 offer 42mm cases, making them wearable for daily use.
Complications include flyback chronograph, GMT, small seconds, and date. Models like PAM 00982 include advanced movements tailored to aquatic use.
To change a Panerai Submersible strap, you must first push down on the lug to unlock the movement of the spring bar. At the same time, push the bar outward through the drilled lug holes. Now, you can gently pull the bar out. To replace the old strap with a new one, push the new strap into place between the lugs. Then, take the bar with the indented side going in toward the locking side, and easily guide it through the lug holes and strap, making sure everything is aligned. Finally, depress the locking mechanism on the lug and push the spring bar in fully so that the bar is set in place.
There are a few telltale signs to look for when spotting a fake Panerai Submersible. On an authentic piece, there is not a marker at the 9 o'clock position, so the left subdial will be closer to the outer edge of the dial to make up for it. Next, every Panerai watch is equipped with twisted or angled lugs to ensure the watch has a better grip on the wrist; fake pieces typically feature straight lugs.
Yes, the Panerai Luminor collection and the Panerai Submersible suite are both water-resistant. In fact, Luminor pieces boast up to a 200m water-resistance while Submersible models are water-resistant up to 300m and are considered among the elite when it comes to diving watches; quite literally, a collection designed to be submerged.
